We believe that God gave our bodies the innate-born ability to heal ourselves!  If you cut your hand and do nothing, it will heal on its own without help.  If you cut the hand of a dead body, you can pump it full of medications and keep that cut as clean as possible, but it will never heal!!! Why?  Because the body is dead and can no longer heal itself!!!

Whenever your spine is not in proper alignment, your body cannot function as it was meant to at 100%!!!  So, we help your body help itself by putting your spine in proper alignment and let your innate power do the rest in healing your body.  Thus, assisting innate!!!

In January 2005, Dr. Joseph Kauffman purchased the chiropractic clinic in Lewistown from Dr. Daniel Hummel who has been there practicing for the past 30 years.  Together, we strive to make Mifflin County and central PA healthier without the use of medication, one spine at a time.

We are changing our payment methodology as we are striving to leave the insurance nightmare. Our office is changing to a cash-based office and are offering membership plans that enable you to acquire chiropractic care at rates more affordable than your insurance co-payment!

    Dr. Joseph Kauffman

I am from the McVeytown area with most of my father's relatives being from the Longfellow/Pine Glen area and most of my mother's relatives being from the Belleville area.  I graduated in 1994 from Juniata High School and attended California University of Pennsylvania.  I entered Chiropractic School in 1998 at Life University in Marietta, GA and graduated from there in March of 2002.  I completed all four parts of the National Boards and the Physical Therapy section.  In February 2003, I began practicing as an Associate Doctor in Pittsburgh, PA.  In September 2004, I returned home to the Lewistown area and began working for the doctor who gave me my first adjustment at the age of 16, Dr. Daniel Hummel.  In January 2005, I purchased the office from him and have been striving to help as many people as possible.  In November 2006, I opened a side office in Belleville to see more patients and draw from a community that is in need of chiropractic care.  I married Colette Espigh on April 9, 2005.  She is from the Pine Glen area and we actually were in the same Sunday school class together at the age of four.  On November 13, 2009, God blessed us with fraternal twins, Emma and Ian. We continue to serve the Lord together in helping as many people as possible and living life according to God's plan.  We try to do as many events as possible in the community to spread the word about how chiropractic can help people.  We have done successful health fairs in major companies in the Lewistown area as well as be a part of some major local community days such as Women's Wellness Day, RiverFest, and Country Memories Day, just to name a few.  If you are interested in having us do a health fair at your workplace or a screening at your event, contact us to let us know.  I also formed a local networking group called Community Business Networking or CBN as a way to help promote local small business through the best way to advertise, word-of-mouth.

I am originally from Clearfield, Pennsylvania, but have lived in Mifflin County for 31 years. I am a graduate of Clearfield Area High School and Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Upon graduation from Palmer in 1976, I opened the Hummel Chiropractic Center in Lewistown on November 22nd of that same year. My wife, Sandy, and I have two children David and Jennifer. In 2005, I sold my practice to Dr. Kauffman and it became the Kauffman Hummel Chiropractic Clinic. Its always been my belief that the power that made the body heals the body and knowing that Dr. Kauffman and I share a faith in that God-given Power gave me confidence that when the time comes for me to retire, he will continue to provide the same quality of care that patients have come to expect. In the meantime, I now see patients two days per week and am enjoying a slightly slower pace as an employee rather than an employer.

Testimonials

Reviews By Our Satisfied Patients

  • "I have been going to Kauffman Hummel Chiropractic for years. I tell everyone if it was not for them I do not think I would be walking. I have terrible lower back pain and it goes into my legs. I can always tell when I need an adjustment, and after doing so I always feel like I am living again. Probably, (and don't tell him I said this) if I would listen to "Chiropractor Joe" I would feel even better if I would go more often. The membership plan they offer is very rewarding, because the more you use it the cheaper the rates for a visit become....It is definitely better than my insurance co pay for Chiropractic visits. The staff is very friendly and professional, but after time of going routinely, they become your family. I would highly recommend this Chiropractic office."
